Home care in Limerick and County Limerick.

Limerick is the State's third-largest settlement by population. The 2022 census counted 102,287 people there, 14,063 of them (13.7%) aged 65 or over. 8,311 over-65s in County Limerick live on their own, 26.1% of those in private households and in line with the national 25.9%. County Limerick had 22.5% more people aged 65 or over in 2022 than in 2016 (27,418 then, 33,588 now), close to the national rise of 22%. 23.3% of people living here have a disability and 5.1% are carers, according to Census 2022 (23,794 and 5,252 people).

For HSE purposes the area belongs to HSE Mid West (Limerick City and North Tipperary area). The HSE side of home support runs through the HSE Home Support Office for Limerick City (2nd Floor, Roselawn House, National Technology Park, Castletroy V94 6K65, 061 492 131). Shannondoc provides GP cover out of hours. We found 14 home care provider offices listed in County Limerick, from 14 names. In the town itself the lists show 10 offices, among them Dovida, Bluebird Care, Comfort Keepers, Irish Home Care and MyHomecare.ie. The Post-Discharge programme works from your own client list, whichever hospital the client left.

On the HSE hospital list, the acute site for the area is University Hospital Limerick. Palliative care in the area is provided by Milford Care Centre (Hospice, Limerick) and Limerick Community Specialist Palliative Care Team. Hettie answers every call and writes each one up, so the morning coordinator sees the night in one summary. A city has more than one acute hospital, so discharge calls depend on which ward a client left.
