Why local

Home care is delivered one county at a time.

The HSE commissions home support through local offices, hospitals and hospices differ from one area to the next, and the out-of-hours GP service changes at the county line. Each page below pulls those local facts together for the 50 largest settlements in the State, ranked by the CSO 2022 census.

Nationally, 60,463 people were receiving HSE home support at the end of 2025, 5,286 had been assessed and were waiting for a carer in May 2026, and the population aged 65 and over grew 22% between 2016 and 2022.
