Home care in Galway and County Galway.

Census 2022 puts Galway, the State's fourth-largest settlement by population, at 85,910 people. Of those, 10,949 (12.7%) are aged 65 and over, a younger profile than the county as a whole. County Galway had 42,886 residents aged 65 and over at Census 2022, up 22.9% on 2016 (close to the national rise of 22%). 22.1% of people living here have a disability and 5.1% are carers, according to Census 2022 (18,988 and 4,342 people). 25.8% of people aged 65 and over in private households in County Galway live alone (10,297 people), in line with the national 25.9%.

This part of the country comes under HSE West and North West and the Galway and Roscommon Integrated Health Area. The HSE Home Support Office in Galway is at 2nd Floor, La Nua, Ballybane, Galway H91 VE03 (091 748 474). Westdoc provides GP cover out of hours. The county list we built has 20 offices from 20 home care providers. Bluebird Care, Caremark, Comfort Keepers and Right at Home have an office in the town, with Dovida also on the list for the county. Where there are many providers to choose from, the agency that answers at 11pm is the one a family remembers.

People leaving hospital from this area are most likely to come home from University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital. Palliative care in the area is provided by Galway Hospice Foundation and Galway Community Specialist Palliative Care Team. The nearest neighbours with pages of their own are Ennis, Castlebar and Limerick. Agencies that cover the commuter belt around the city can share one Care Centre set-up across every branch. The Gaeltacht areas of County Galway (Conamara and the Aran Islands) are worth a mention: if your clients there speak Irish, raise it with us at the demo.
